RADar Challenge

31 July - 15 September 2026

What if tomorrow's major disruptions are already visible today? Scientific, technological, and industrial breakthroughs do not always appear overnight. They are often preceded by weak signals: subtle, sometimes ordinary changes that may indicate much deeper transformations. With this new challenge, RADAR invites you to look at your environment differently and detect, in your daily life, the early signs of tomorrow's disruptions.

The Challenge consists of responding to the following mission:

The goal? To leverage diverse perspectives on our society to identify weak signals that may escape traditional monitoring systems and enrich RADAR's forward-looking reflection.

From an everyday photo, identify a weak signal and imagine the major disruption it could trigger.

Time horizon 2036

L’objectif ? Faire émerger des idées concrètes et innovantes à partager avec des acteurs clés de la défense nationale.

Instructions:

Your contribution must include the following elements:

1 - Observation
Photograph an object, scene, technology, or situation from your daily life that catches your attention.

2 - The weak signal
A subtle, emerging change, sometimes seemingly ordinary, but which could be a sign of a deeper shift. The identified weak signal must have a dual nature, meaning it could have implications both in civilian contexts and in security and defence fields.

3 - The potential disruption
Project yourself to the year 2036. Explain how this weak signal could announce a major scientific, technological, or industrial disruption and sustainably transform existing balances. What could be its consequences for society? What new uses, risks, or opportunities might it bring? And, if applicable, what could be its implications for defence?

Be authentic, creative, and innovative!

A jury composed of members of the RADAR programme team will select the best ideas.
